Travel Insured International make you work to get your money refunded. They require the claimee to do the footwork of finding and sending each vendor's refund and cancellation policy when this information is on the companies' websites.
Not sure if Travel Insured is using AI to review claims to create their emails. I find the emails from Travel Insured lacking in critical thinking, have redundant or irrelevant requests. For example, my fiancee and I cancelled going on our trip a week before the trip was to start. Yet the Travel Insured emails asked for length of stay at the hotel we booked in Norway. It should have been obvious based on when we cancelled our trip that we never stayed at the hotel.
I changed my trip to avoid issues with Mount Etna, and I knew that Catania Airport was causing major problems for many of my friends. Their vacations were ruined because they couldn't fly out and were bussed to other airports. The crowds were rushing buses and they had trouble even trying to board these buses as the airport dealt with hysteria among disgruntled passengers. I didn't want my group going through what my other friends did so when Square Mouth told me I could not get re-imbursed for our Ryanair fare, I was really disappointed and thought that the insurance would cover me. We did not go to Catania and cut our losses. I realize purchasing this type of insurance is not really necessary. In the future, if it doesn't cover things like earthquakes, volcanoes, and wildfires at the location we are going to, then I will not purchase insurance. Insurance is fundamentally intended as a risk-management vehicle against catastrophic financial loss. If a policy fails to cover high-severity, low-probability events, the economic rationale for holding it disappears. I see little value in maintaining coverage that absorbs minor, manageable expenses while leaving me exposed to ruinous liability.
I will never conduct business with square mouth or travel insured again. Wife was diagnosed with cancer and while they were willing to refund most of it they decided to keep 50.00 to themselves… **** you
Convenient interface, competitive pricing, and responsive customer service.
I have purchased insurance through travel insured international for my last 5 trips. They are easy to get in touch with and helpful. I have made claims for previous trips and was pleased with how easy it was to submit the claims.
My experience with Travel Insured International (TII) was outstanding, from the moment I signed up for a policy to when I received payment for a claim. Every step of the way.
What happened: I was on vacation on a tiny Portuguese island off the coast of Africa when the vision in one of my eyes started failing. Amazingly, I was able to see an eye doctor on that island who knew exactly what to do. I called TII during that stressful time, and they were helpful and informative. When I returned to the US, gathering all the pertinent claim info seemed daunting, and I had a number of conversations with the TII folks. In every single case, they were simply so nice and helpful. Due to my rather limited technical abilities (and the amount of info), I decided to send my claim info by USPS. They never questioned or challenged anything in my claim info and paid my claim very promptly. Granted, this is how it should work, but I've never had to file a trip insurance claim before, and I wondered if I'd ever see a dime.
I should add that I had meticulous records of everything I needed, including a letter from the doctor who treated me.
One small criticism: In my numerous conversations with TII as I started my claim process, people sent me different links that requested slightly different claim info, which also differed a bit from what was shown on the TII site. This bogged me down at first and complicated my progress. But all was well in the end.
I would give my interaction with Travel Insured rep’s responsiveness 5 stars; the policy itself deserves a 1 star, as I was extremely disappointed with it, as it was essentially worthless for my purposes. I should have scrutinized its provisions at a very deep level immediately after purchasing it.
I considered canceling our trip pre-departure because of a named hurricane threatening my destination on the day of our travel. However, my airfare costs weren’t covered as my airline would give a travel credit if we didn’t fly. Second, our accommodations weren’t covered if we cancelled because we used $4000 worth of credit card points, not cash, to pay for them, and the vacation rental company has a no refund policy. Third, the rental car coverage I purchased was worthless because it was secondary to my already robust auto insurance coverage, not primary.
I wasted over $600 in premiums for a policy that was useless for my situation.
The only way I would purchase such a policy in the future is if I purchase a package deal from a provider such as Costco and pay cash for it in advance. Buyer beware!
The claim process was difficult because Travel Insured Customer service was unresponsive and constantly asking for additional material. I would send requested information or an explanation as to why it was not available and receive a message they were sorry for the delays but then I would get no action. After 2 months of this I opened a "zero complaint" case with Squaremouth and I quickly received a check for my delayed trip expense from Travel Insured. I will not use this company again.
It would have been helpful if Travel Insured International had made it easy to know that after the start date of travel the policy can not be extended.
Everything is fine so far.
We filed a Medical claim with them last week and have not heard back regarding progress on that.
